Mental health is important to overall health and many Americans battle mental health struggles each and every day. The Arlington Police Department joins the national movement to raise awareness about mental health for the month of May, Mental Health Awareness Month. We would like to provide you with information about APD’s efforts to assist residents with mental health concerns and updated mental health resources available.
Arlington Police Department officers respond to mental health emergencies frequently. As a part of the department’s Jail Diversion Program, Clinician Valeri often co-responds alongside officers to provide mental health support, resources and emergency assistance to Arlington, MA residents.
To continue efforts to assist Arlington residents with mental health and substance use concerns, the town of Arlington recently hired Recovery Coach Thomas Caccavaro in April of this year. Tommy is available to help residents with any concerns relating to substance use disorder, recovery and addiction. “Drop-in recovery help hours” are offered every other Wednesday, starting May 4th. For recovery advise, visit the Community Rm at APD (located at 112 Mystic St.) from 6-8 p.m. on the following dates this spring: 5/18, 6/1 and 6/15.
Mental Health Awareness Month provides a perfect opportunity to shine a spotlight on spreading helpful mental health resources. The Arlington Police Department offers a variety of resources and services to the residents of Arlington. Find updated mental health resources such as bereavement, rehabilitation and behavioral health resources on our website. These resources are available to adults and children. Please spread awareness and share this resource information, because you never know who may need it most.
