Over the course of 2016 over 700 pounds of assorted prescription medications were dropped off at the Police Department Lobby for destruction. The various prescription medications were discarded in the Drug Take Back Kiosk. The drug kiosk is located in the Police Headquarters Lobby and is available 24/7.
National Drug Take Back Day, sponsored by the Drug Enforcement Agency, occurs twice a year, both in April and October. Members of the APD, including Inspector Edward Defrancisco and Captain Richard Flynn, along with members of Arlington Youth Health and Safety Coalition (AYHSC), and the Arlington Health and Human Services (H&HS) participate in each event. During this event, hundreds of pounds of assorted prescription medication are turned in for destruction. National Drug Take Back Day is a free and anonymous event coordinated by the DEA and police departments. The designated day gives the public an opportunity to prevent substance abuse by disposing of potentially dangerous expired, unused, or unwanted prescription drugs in their possession.
